CBI Wants Indrani Mukerjea's Blood, Urine and Stomach Wash Samples Preserved

Indrani Mukerjea allegedly killed her daughter Sheena Bora in April 2012

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation has asked the Maharashtra government to preserve the stomach wash, urine and blood samples of former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, which were collected last week.

Ms Mukrejea, along with her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyam Rai, is accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.

42-year-old Ms Mukerjea, arrested in August, had fainted in Mumbai's Byculla women's jail and was admitted to JJ Hospital in an unconscious state on October 2. She was treated for an overdose of medicines and was sent back to prison earlier this week.

The CBI has also requested for the inquiry report of Inspector General of Police (Prisons) into what led to the deterioration of Ms Mukerjea's health. Last week, there was confusion over whether Ms Mukerjea had overdosed on medicines or not. A forensic report on the samples the CBI has asked the state to preserve, ruled out the presence of drugs in her system.

Inspector General of Police (Prisons) Bipin Kumar Singh is likely to submit his report to the state government by the weekend. A CBI team is also visiting the spot in Raigad district near Mumbai where Ms Bora's body was dumped in 2012. There were serious lapses by the Raigad Police in 2002 as they did not even bother to file an FIR or Accidental Death Report in spite of clear signs of murder. An enquiry report on these lapses has been submitted to the government by the police but no action has been taken yet.

The probe into Ms Bora's murder was handed over to the CBI by the Maharashtra government last month as it felt the investigation agency was equipped to probe the financial transactions, which are believed to be the motive for the murder.
