Bal Thackeray stable, to be discharged

Mumbai: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, who was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, is now stable and will be discharged on Monday evening, a hospital official said.

"His condition is stable and there are no complications. He was admitted due to his chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) and heart-related routine checkup on Saturday," chest physician Jalil Parkar told Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

The doctors at Lilavati Hospital monitored his health for two days and Monday said that he is fit and stable.

"He will be discharged this (Monday) evening as there is nothing to worry," Mr Parkar added.

Eighty-six-year-old Mr Thackeray, had undergone emergency angioplasty at the Lilavati Hospital in July 2009 following respiratory problems, causing concern among family and party members. He was discharged after six days in hospital.

Earlier, in March 2009, he had spent 11 days in hospital for similar health complaints.
