Three of a family electrocuted

Lucknow: Three members of a family were electrocuted when a high-tension wire fell near their house in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehgarh area on Friday, police said.

Superintendent of Police N. Chowdhary said that the tragedy occurred in Jasupur village early in the morning when an 11,000kv wire snapped and fell near a hutment.

When Juhi, the 16-year-old daughter of farmer Vijay Singh, passed the area where the wire had fallen, she was electrocuted, police said.

As she shouted, her father rushed to rescue her but he was also electrocuted.

When another family member, Sukhendra Singh, tried to save them, he too was drawn into the strong current, police said.

All three died on the spot.

Villagers called up the police which asked the power station to switch off the electricity supply.

The villagers have sought compensation of Rs three lakh each for the victims.
