Lucknow police issued notice for allegedly subjecting five-year-old boy to electric shocks
New Delhi/Lucknow: The Lucknow Police faces allegations of torturing a five-year-old boy by subjecting him to electric shocks and has been asked by the country's top human rights body to give an explanation.

The National Human Rights Commission or NHRC issued the notice yesterday after taking note of a media report, which alleged that the police picked up the boy on February 2 on suspicion of theft and gave electric shocks to his ears.

The first standard boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which released him on bail.

Officers at the city's Krishna Nagar police station, who allegedly tortured the boy, say he had been beaten up by people before being handed over.

The NHRC issued the notice to the senior superintendent of police in Lucknow and asked for a report in four weeks.
