A 19-year-old girl and her lover were arrested on Thursday for burning alive her friend and masquerading it as a suicide, a senior officer said.
Seeta Sahu (19) and Ram Khilawan were arrested from Jiyamau area for killing her friend Nidhi Sharma. Seeta wanted her parents to think that she had committed suicide after they opposed their relationship, Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters.
During interrogation, Seeta revealed that she was having an affair with Ram Khilawan and wanted to marry him.
"However, Seeta's family was against their marriage and therefore, she plotted her own suicide," he said.
On November 25, Seeta called her friend Nidhi at her residence and drugged her.
"Later Seeta with the help of Ram Khilawan set Nidhi ablaze and escaped from the spot," the ADG said.
Seeta's father Sheetla Sahu informed at Gosaiganj police station that his daughter had committed self-immolation. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which it was mentioned that she was committing suicide and she was upset with Nidhi.
However, the next day Nidhi's father Rampal informed police that his daughter had gone missing.
"On the basis of investigation, Seeta was arrested from Jiyamau area this afternoon," he said.
