CM slams Opposition for disrupting UP Assembly proceedings
Lucknow: Criticizing the Opposition parties for uproar during Governor's address on the opening day of the Budget Session in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Mayawati said such an act was violation of the parliamentary traditions.

"As the leader of the House and chief minister, I condemn the behaviour of the opposition parties in strong words," Mayawati told reporters after the opposition members disrupted the proceedings of the House during Governor's address.

On the opposition's demand of releasing jailed independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, she said he has a long criminal history.

"Raja Bhaiyya, whose release SP MLAs are demanding, has a past criminal history which is not hidden from anyone," she said.

Mayawati alleged that SP was a party of goons and mafias and this was the reason it was ousted from the power by the people in 2007.

"People of the state will give a befitting reply to SP and other opposition parties in 2012 assembly elections," she said.

On opposition's demand to dismiss the government on the issue of atrocities against women, the CM said government facts prove that as compared to other states, less cases of women harassment took place in UP.

"Kareli incident in Allahabad, which happened during SP regime, is an example of atrocities against women," she said.

Criticizing Congress, Mayawati said it was during this party's regime that Phoolan Devi emerged and was forced to take up weapons.

"Whatever allegations are being levelled on the BSP regime, such incidents had happened during the regime of opposition parties as well," she said.

She alleged that while no action was being taken in cases of atrocities against women in Congress-ruled Delhi and Haryana, BSP government did not hesitate in putting behind the bars its ministers and MLAs found guilty in such cases.

"Allegations leveled by the opposition parties are baseless. In reality, since BSP came to power in UP, law and order has improved and development has taken place. Therefore, the entire opposition is feeling desperate and disappointed," she alleged.

"As the opposition parties have nothing left to say, they are leveling baseless allegations," Mayawati said.
