Kolkata: On January 16, Kolkata woke up to a shocking triple murder at a businessman's home. A woman and her twin sons were found dead.

Neil Fonseca, who was found badly wounded, then claimed that he had killed his wife in self defence after she killed her sons and attacked him. Now, he has "confessed" to killing his wife and sons, police sources say.

Hours before the murders, the Fonsecas, well known in the city's social circles, had been seen dining and dancing at a club. Neil and Jessica Fonseca were celebrating their wedding anniversary with their 16-year-old sons Darren and Joshua, and daughter, who is studying in the US.

On returning home, the couple allegedly fought. The next morning, the police found the three bodies in a bedroom in their upscale south Kolkata apartment.

Mr Fonseca has told the police he first killed his wife with dumbbells and then his sons. He allegedly also stabbed them with a knife. Reports say he told the police that he was furious with his sons for supporting their mother in the fight.

The police say Mr Fonseca claimed he was under pressure because his interior design business was not doing well, he was in debt and he had fights with his wife over his relationship with another woman.

Mr Fonseca is in hospital and has not been arrested yet.

His alleged confession to the police does not have legal validity but the police say it will help in the investigations.
