Amartya Sen to Inaugurate Kolkata Literature Festival

New Delhi: Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen will inaugurate the second edition of the Kolkata Literature Festival (KLF) in February this year, organisers said.

"Amartya Sen will inaugurate the Literature Festival which will coincide with the last days of the Kolkata Book Fair. Film personality Soumitra Chatterjee, Upamanyu Chatterjee and Shobha De will also be present," Trideep Chatterjee, General Secretary, Publishers & Booksellers Guild said in New Delhi today.

The Guild, which has been organising the prestigious Kolkata Book Fair every year, had begun the festival at the Fair premises from last year onwards.

Authors Sudha Murthy, Ashok Banker, journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and actor director Prakash Belawadi of "Madras Cafe" fame are among those expected to participate at the KLF 2015, scheduled in Kolkata from February 6-8, organisers said.

"There are a total of 13 to 15 sessions planned over three days with seperate sessions pegged on film, drama, music and dance. British, American and Spanish authors are also lined up to participate and every day the events will culminate with music and dance performances," Mr Chatterjee said.

"We are also planning to have a special session on cinema with a focus on Amol Palekar," he said.

The festival is an entry by invite only event and is part of the 12-day Kolkata Book Fair that begins on January 28.
