Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Women's Development Corporation, under the state Social Justice Department, has decided to work on August 2, a Sunday, as a mark of respect to former President APJ Abdul Kalam, who passed away last night.

KSWDC Managing Director PTM Sunish said the decision was taken to fulfil the message of Dr Kalam, who had said that a holiday should not be declared on his death, but to work an extra day instead.

"The employees of KSWDC have unanimously decided to work on the coming Sunday as any other usual working day. It is to fulfill the message of Dr Kalam, who had urged not to declare a holiday on his death, instead work an extra day," he told PTI.

He also said they considered this as an occasion to pay rich tribute to the memory of the 'people's president', who had a close association with Kerala.

As per the decision, KSWDC's head office, regional offices and district offices would remain open on August 2, the official added.
