The opposition BJP has called for a bandh in Karnataka's Mysore today in protest against the brutal murder of a party worker on Sunday. The police said four people have been detained.
B Raju, in his 30s, was attacked by a group of men when he was standing at a tea stall. He died on the spot.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed across the city. The situation is said to be under control.
Activists of the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad or VHP staged protests shouting slogans on Mysore's roads on Sunday, demanding that the attackers be arrested and that the police conduct a speedy investigation into Mr Raju's murder.
"I condemn this heinous act which cut short the life of a young man. It is depressing to note the police's failure in preventing this. Mysore city bandh is called tomorrow. The state BJP will extend full support to it," said Karnataka BJP chief Prahalad Joshi on Sunday, also appealing for a peaceful bandh.
He also demanded the "immediate arrest of the culprits and to ensure no further such incident is repeated."
Karnataka is ruled by the Congress.
