Children Below 10 Work at Uttar Pradesh Event To Felicitate Top Official

Little children arranged chairs at a Samajwadi Party function in Kanpur

Kanpur: Children below 10 are seen arranging chairs for an event in Uttar Pradesh organized by the state's ruling Samajwadi Party.

The event took place yesterday at a Samajwadi Party office in Kanpur to felicitate Surendra Mohan Agarwal, a minister-rank politician.

In a video that is being circulated online, little children are seen picking up chairs and arranging them in rows before the arrival of Mr Agarwal, who is the chairman of the Small Industries Development Corporation and was elevated to minister rank recently.

According to reports, they were street children - including teenagers - promised a little money for odd jobs.

Last year in October, the party ruling India's largest state was widely condemned for having little children clean and sweep the grounds of a college in Kannauj, where Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was to address a seminar.

A study by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights claims that Uttar Pradesh accounts for 15 per cent of the child workforce in the country, the most among all states.
