Air India flight skids off Kanpur runway, passengers safe

Kanpur: An Air India plane skidded off the runway at the Kanpur airport this afternoon, reportedly because a tyre burst while the plane was landing.

There were 50 passengers on board; all of them are safe.

Author Chetan Bhagat, who was on the flight, tweeted, "The plane wheels are barely visible, dug deep into mud. Everyone's out now. Rattled but safe."

The 70-seater plane was headed from Delhi to Kolkata via Kanpur. At 12.23 pm, the nose wheel of the plane got stuck in the mud along the runway.

All crew members were sent for a medical check-up, which is a requirement in cases like this according to civil aviation guidelines.

Airport Manager A K Sarin said it was raining when the plane landed. "The flight will not be sent to Kolkata and a team of technicians will be inspecting the plane," he said.
