Jaipur:
Tension continued to grip Dausa after a clash had erupted between two groups during students' union election in Jaipur, with prohibitory orders being imposed in the district.
Locals, mostly Gujjars, blocked National Highway-11 connecting Jaipur with Agra causing traffic disruptions on the route.
The area is under heavy police deployment and efforts are on to resolve the situation, IG Jaipur range Saurabh Srivastava said.
Several companies of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary, Special Task Force are in Dausa and force would be used to disperse the mob if they do not clear the highway, he said.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC have already been imposed in the district.
Police is in conversation with locals and community leaders to resolve the issue, SP Dausa Dilip Kumar said, adding that Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla has also been called to intervene in the matter.
Yesterday, students and supporters of candidates contesting the polls barged into the residence of the Rajasthan Minister of State for Technical Education, Murari Lal Meena, and tried to vandalize the property when the minister was away.
The attack at the minister's house followed a clash between two rival groups led by Rajendra Gujjar and Siyaram Meena, both contenders for the post of students' union president of Dausa district college, police had said.
As many as six persons were injured in the clash as students went on a rampage pelting stones, burning a Roadways bus and damaging some two-wheelers.
Police had to resort to force and firing tear gas shells to control the mob.
At least 15 persons have been arrested in this connection, police added.
