Jaipur: Jeweller tries to save dog, dies

Jaipur: Jitendra Swami, resident of Himmat Nagar colony, was a regular on his morning walk. Every day he was accompanied by his pet dog. But Sunday proved fatal for him.

The city-based jeweller was run down by a speeding train and killed as he tried to pull his pet from the railway track near Bajaj Nagar locality on Sunday.

Police handed over the body of the deceased to his family after postmortem. They have begun investigation in the case.

According to sources, Swami was walking near the railway track behind the Jaipur Dairy Plant. After walking for some distance, his pet crossed the rail track while a train was approaching from behind.

Swami noticed the train only when it was few meters away and tried to pull his dog away from track but it was a bit too late. As Swami rolled the leash of the pet around his wrist, he was also pulled and run over by the train. Soon after the accident locals spotted him and informed the police and railway authorities about the accident.

Bajaj Nagar police said that Swami was identified by locals as they used to see him during his regular morning walks. Both Swami and his pet died on the spot. Swami's body was taken to Jaipuria Hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was dragged towards the train as pet's leash got stuck in the wheels. Government railway police have also registered a case in this regard.
