Indian-Origin Man Killed In UK Petrol Blaze

Local police have confirmed that the explosion is "non-suspicious" and did not involve anyone else.

London: An Indian-origin man was killed in a severe fire which broke out due to build-up of petrol vapour and led to an explosion at his home in Western England.

Avtar Dhensa, 49, was overcome by a massive explosion while doing some small household building work on an upstairs room in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands region.

His body was discovered after a severe fire broke out in the upper floor and loft on Tuesday.

Local police have confirmed that the explosion is "non-suspicious" and did not involve anyone else.

"Our investigators have carried out a thorough examination of the scene. We believe that the explosion and resulting fire followed a build-up of petrol vapours inside the property," said a West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and no-one other than the victim is believed to have been involved," the spokesperson said.

Residents in the Rylands Drive neighbourhood of the city said the man had lived at the house with his wife for many years and the couple were having renovation work done on their property.

"It's really hard for her. She's lost her husband. She's lost everything. I don't know why this has happened," said Kiran Uppal, who works with Dhensa's wife Jaspal.

Neighbours were evacuated from their homes for several hours while 15 firefighters doused the blaze.
