Body Found During Search for an Indian Student in New Zealand: Report
Wellington: Police searching for a 20-year-old Indian student who went missing last week in New Zealand found a body on Sunday, according to a media report.

Mandeep Singh, a culinary arts student went missing last Sunday after clubbing with his friends before they lost contact with him in the Bungalow 8 night club at the Viaduct harbour about 3am.

Police said that a body has been recovered from the Waitemata harbour. The body is yet to be formally identified, but police have been searching the area for the missing Indian student.

Auckland Police district commander, Superintendent Richard Chambers confirmed that crew aboard police boat Deodar located a body, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray had on Friday said that the search in central Auckland had failed to provide any further lines of inquiry into what happened to the student.

"Police do now know that Mandeep was seen on a pier in Queens Wharf just after 4am on Sunday morning and was alone at the time," Ms Marcia said.

"So, at this stage, unless further information is received, we are not treating his disappearance as suspicious," she said.

Police said the matter would now be referred to the coroner, the report said.

A police dive squad searched the Viaduct area this week but did not find him.
