The assault, captured on security cameras, shows Kalu Singh Thakur of the BJP throwing a stone at one of the toll plaza employees. His posse attacks others with a stick.

The attack took place on Monday evening in the Mhow, around 250 kms from the state capital of Bhopal.

"Why should I apologize," asked the BJP leader, insisting that he was attacked first. "I'm an MLA, we don't pay toll," he said. The police has accepted his complaint against the workers of the toll plaza.

All state legislators and government officials are exempt from paying toll as long as they provide identification. The politician in this case was using his private car, but was livid that he had been asked to furnish an ID card.
