Balrampur: Corruption is the biggest hurdle in the development of Uttar Pradesh, Governor Ram Naik today said as he flagged its growth in the education sector.

Mr Naik, who was here to attend a function to mark birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, said, "Without stopping corruption all round development of UP was not possible."

He said that two vice-chancellors recently have received threats after they tried to check the menace.

"Corruption is also increasing in education sector and two vice-chancellors have received threats when they attempted to check the menace," the Governor said.

Mr Naik said that people should draw inspiration from Maharana Pratap and Shivaji for "protecting the pride".

He said that though Maharana Pratap was from Rajasthan, his ancestors lived with Tharu tribe, which he said was disconnected from the mainstream of development.

The Governor said that despite being a king, Maharana Pratap rejected the leisure and fought for the country and pride.
