Widow Of Gardener Who Caught Nathuram Godse Gets Rs 5 Lakh

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated Mandodari Nayak at the secretariat in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to the widow of Raghu Nayak, who had caught Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse in 1948.

Mr Patnaik felicitated Mandodari Nayak at the secretariat in Bhubaneswar. She was accompanied by the Kendrapada District Collector and her family members.

Raghu, a native of Jaguliapada in Kendrapada district, grappled with Godse and pinned him down after he shot Mahatma Gandhi at the Birla House in New Delhi on January 30, 1948.

Raghu was working as a gardener at the Birla House then.

Raghu died in 1983 and his son passed away some years later. His widow now stays with their daughter.
