Uttarakhand on Tuesday sought a package of Rs 21000 crore from the Centre following heavy loss of lives and property in the hill state due to rains, landslides and floods.
This was decided at an all party meeting presided over by Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at Vidhan Sabha, an official spokesman said.
Out of the Rs 21000 crore package, the state has sought Rs 8000 crore for the repair of nearly 1500 roads which have been damaged.
For the rehabilitation of nearly 200 villages which have been declared unsafe, the state requires Rs 5000 crore.
For the repair of the damaged canals, the state is seeking Rs 3000 crore and for damaged drinking water projects, the package component is of Rs 2500 crore.
Nearly one lakh hectare of agriculture land has been washed away in the heavy floods and cloudbursts for which Rs 1000 crore is being demanded. The state is seeking Rs 1000 crore for repair of damaged power projects and its related infrastructure.
A total of 76 people have died in the heavy rains during the past few days.
UP battles floodIn Uttar Pradesh too there's no let-up in the flood situation. The death toll in rain-related incidents has gone up to 256 this season. Swirling waters of its major rivers have inundated 177 villages in 30 districts. The flood situation in the nine districts of Western Uttar Pradesh is grim with road and rail traffic hit. The flood waters have submerged the roads and tracks.
With a grim flood scenario in the state, AICC President Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by Defence Minister A K Antony, undertook an aerial survey of the affected areas including Bareilly, Moradabad and Rampur, officials said.
They also undertook a tour of flood and cloudburst-hit areas of Uttarakhand .
A spokesman of the relief commissioner's office here said that Bijnore, Rampur and Moradabad were the worst hit places in the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government has already released an additional Rs 20 crore for flood relief.
