The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed repeated uproar over certain remarks by a senior BJP member against RJD chief Lalu Prasad on the issue of caste-based census, leading to adjournment of the House for the day.

The House saw noisy scenes when Ananth Kumar (BJP) made certain remarks against Prasad as the latter interrupted him when he was referring to illegal immigration from Bangladesh, which affected the census exercise.

Kumar, who initiated the debate on Census 2011, had noted that illegal migrants from Bangladesh were getting themselves registered as Indian citizens and said the matter related to "internal disturbance and external aggression."

To this, Prasad said Kumar was indulging in BJP propaganda by "repeatedly talking of Pakistan and Bangladesh and ignoring the issue of backwards in the census exercise."

An agitated Kumar retorted, saying he would raise the matter suggested by Prasad but would first take up the issue related to national security.

When Prasad continued to object to the reference to the problem of illegal migrants, Kumar asked the RJD chief to clarify "whether you are with India or with Pakistan and Bangladesh."

He made certain remarks against the RJD leader, to which Prasad said Kumar was levelling wild allegations.

The RJD leader was joined by members of Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress, who sought an apology from Kumar.

Amid the din, Deputy Speaker Karia Munda first adjourned the House till 3.30 pm.

Similar scenes were witnessed when the House reassembled and was adjourned within 10 minutes to meet at 4.45 pm.

When the House resumed, RJD members led by Prasad did not allow Kumar to speak and raised slogans demanding an apology from him. Amid uproar, the chair adjourned the House for the day.
