New Delhi: Derek O'Brien, the flamboyant Trinamool Congress member to the Rajya Sabha who also handles social media for his party, on Wednesday made an unexpected pleasant gesture by sending a Christmas cake to senior CPM leader and Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Ram Chandra Dome.
"It's a nice social gesture, and I and my family wish him (Derek O'Brien) and his family a very happy Christmas," Mr Dome told NDTV.
Mr O'Brien's gesture comes at a time when West Bengal Health Minister Jyotipriya Malik, who is also a senior Trinamool Congress leader, has urged people of his state not to maintain any social contact with the CPM.
Other senior Trinamool Congress leaders, such as Subhendu Adhikari, too have on several occasions asked the people of West Bengal not to even marry into families that have connections with the CPIM.
Given the hostile relations between the two parties, Mr O'Brien's gesture is a welcome change and perhaps indicates that the Trinamool Congress is keen on toning down its anti-Left rhetoric that has often been dubbed as in poor taste.
