This 67-Year-Old in UP Has Been Pregnant 5 Times in 10 Months

67 year old Nanhkayi has been pregnant 5 times in 10 months, according to government records

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: One has heard of women giving birth to triplets and quadruplets, but what the Uttar Pradesh government has managed to do is simply impossible.

67 year old Nanhkayi's husband died almost 25 years ago, but government records show that she has been pregnant five times in the past 10 months.

At a ratio of having a child every two months, she seems to be the miracle lady who has defied the world of science. All this courtesy a few corrupt officials in the health department in Bahraich district.

Ms Nanhkayi claims officials are siphoning money on her name, "The money comes to the hospital and it goes to officials. I am an old woman and my husband died 25-30 years ago. This is very wrong," she told NDTV.

According to government records available, the government has paid over Rs 7 crore to 52,527 women at a sum of Rs 1,400 each for being pregnant this year in the district. This adds upto almost 10 babies being born at the 15 primary health centres of the district.

The reality is that even most government hospitals across the state do not have such facilities to help deliver 10 babies a day, primary health centres remain far behind in terms of facilities.

The health department has taken action, but only against junior officials.

The chief medical officer at Bahraich, Dr Kulbhushan Jain told NDTV, "We have suspended 5 persons and 2 people have been transferred. The inquiry is being handled by Dr Balit."

Move over to western UP in Badayun where the same department has been accused of making a woman pregnant three times in just four months on government records. The ratio of having a child every 40 days has easily outdone here has easily beaten Ms Nanhkayi's record of having a child every 60 days.

It was only when the bank officials raised an alarm, that the matter was investigated in Badayun.

Additional director of health department, Dr Subodh Sharma said, "We will take action against whosoever has signed against her name. We will write to the government and ask them to take action against fake payments."

The health department handles a budget of around Rs 3000 crore, and many officials still seem to be hand in glove to swindle the government.
