Thirteen years later, hunt on for 'rapist' cop

Jaipur: Raped 13 years ago by a former police officer, the trauma still continues for Malli Devi and her husband. Thirteen years ago she was working in Madhukar Tandon's Noida residence. Her husband, a police constable was employed with Tandon as the DIG's gunman.

"On February 16, 1997 at 1:30 am, Tandon sahib sent my husband upstairs. My husband told me to get money for car repairs, dog food and other small expenses from downstairs. I went down to get the money. When I went in his (Tandon's) room, he forcibly hugged me and clamped my mouth. He tore my clothes and dumped me on the bed. I managed to scream. My husband came running. He pushed Madhukar Tandon away. Tandon locked my husband in the next room for two days. Tandon took me upstairs and locked me," said Malli.

A day later on the February 17, the nightmare was repeated. "Tandon sahib showed me a knife and threatened to kill my husband and me. That night again, he raped me," Malli added.

Threatened by Tandon, the constable left for Jaipur on February 19, leaving his wife behind guarded by 2 other servants in the house. On the 25th, she managed to escape and reached Jaipur from where she returned to her village. But on March 1, Tandon followed Malli to her village.

From her village, she was taken away on a pretext saying her husband had met with an accident. Falling in Tandon's trap, she was raped again.

"I was raped again. Next morning, Tandon left for Jaipur. I came to the police station and lodged a complaint," Malli recalled.

Thirteen years after she was raped, Malli Devi is still waiting for justice.
