A teenage girl was allegedly beaten to death and hanged from a tree after her cattle strayed into a field in West Bengal's Bankura district

Bankura, West Bengal: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death and hanged from a tree after her cattle strayed into a field in a neighbouring village in West Bengal's Bankura district.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the girl, a resident of the Bhikurdih village, had allegedly taken her cattle out to graze. The cattle allegedly wandered into the field of Mahadev Gorai in the adjoining Jethia village and ate vegetables.

This angered Mahadev Gorai who, along with two others, beat the teen to death and later hanged her from a tree using her dupatta, the girl's family has alleged in their complaint.

When the police arrived at the spot, they found that the minor's body was with her family. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Gorai and two others have been arrested.
