Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse is in the capital on a four-day visit. But he is far from being universally welcomed.

Tamil organisations in South India have been protesting against the visit. They say he is responsible for the genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils during the bitter conflict between the government and the LTTE.

Rajapakse is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, President, External Affairs Minister and Sonia Gandhi during his visit to India.

This will be his first visit since his re-election and also the first since the LTTE was wiped out.

The DMK too has decided to lead an all-party delegation and call on the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The all-party delegation will be led by T R Baalu and Kanimozhi.

The prime purpose of this meeting would be to request the Sri Lankan President to initiate necessary steps and expedite the process of rehabilitation of the displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.
