Sunanda Tharoor case: viscera report copy to be sent back to AIIMS medical board

Sunanda Tharoor case: viscera report copy to be sent back to AIIMS medical board
New Delhi: Over two months after she was found dead at a south Delhi five-star hotel, the Delhi Police is still clueless about what killed Sunanda Pushkar, wife of union minister Shashi Tharoor. Now, the police are planning to send her viscera report to the board of doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to get a second opinion.

Sunanda's viscera report had come in just about a week back, which indicated that there were traces of the anti-depressant drug Alprax in her system. But strangely enough, it highlighted that there was no sign of any substance that qualifies as poison.

This was in direct contradiction of the post-mortem report given by the AIIMS medical board which said that Sunanda died of poisoning.

Sources in the Delhi Police say that now they want the same doctors who conducted the post-mortem to take a look at the viscera report to figure out the reason for the discrepancy  or whether the viscera needs to be re-examined.

52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a hotel room on January 18, days after a very public spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar in the social media, involving her husband Shashi Tharoor.

The marriage was strained for many months and there were signs of the couple having fought physically even days before her death.

The sub-divisional magistrate over-seeing the inquest proceedings has asked the Delhi Police to investigate the case after the post-mortem report showed that she had died a 'sudden unnatural death' due to poisoning.
