Srinagar: Security forces have been hunting Kashmir's Pampore forests since Tuesday, for Lashkar-e-Taiba bases that have reportedly come up overnight.

"It's a vast and hilly jungle area. The weather is adverse. A largenumber of jawans are involved in the search. We have busted a hideoutarranged to accommodate a large number of militants. Our search is on,"said Inspector General of Police Farooq Ahmad.

On Thursday night, a suicide bomber Umar Maviya was shot dead at Gusu village in South Kashmir. He came from Pakistan with the mission to launch a suicide attack in Srinagar. He was carrying 30 kilograms of RDX, two grenades and a rifle.

Mudasir, an explosives expert, was killed two days ago. He was behind the car bomb attack that blew up a police vehicle outside Srinagar's Central Jail on September 12, which killed three people.

A Hizbul Mujahidden terrorist for 10 years, Mudasir had recently started working for the Lashkar.

These inter-organisational shifts are quite common in the region as most terror organisations are collaborators.

This operation is one of the longest in recent months. It was launched against the LeT men who are targeting Srinagar for last few months.
