Stop violence in West Bengal, Chidambaram tells Buddhadeb
New Delhi: After publicly condemning the killing of civilians in West Bengal, Home Minister P Chidambaram has reportedly written to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya raising concern over the violence in the state.

In his letter to Bhattacharya - written on December 21 - Chidambaram said that the recent incidents of violence are alarming and asked the state government to take steps to stop the violence.

However, Chief Minister office in Kolkata has denied receiving any letter.

Yesterday, a delegation of Trinamool leaders met the Prime Minister in New Delhi and expressed their concern over rising food prices and violence in West Bengal. Assembly polls are barely four months away and Mamata wants the Centre to get tough with the state government.

In the latest incident of violence in the state, a student was killed on campus last week. The CPM-led state government has accused Mamata Banerjee of instigating the violence. (Read: West Bengal's funeral politics) 

The Railway Minister says its the CPM that's killing Trinamool workers. On Wednesday, she said that she was ready to quit if she cannot prove that the CPM was misusing central security forces brought for anti-Maoist operations in West Bengal. (Watch)

"Central forces are being used to kill Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal. 2,000 workers and supporters have been killed since the Lok Sabha elections. CPM has unleashed a reign of terror," she claimed.
