South Central Railways on high alert to face cyclone threat

With threat of cyclonic storm Laila, likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coastline on Thursday evening, South Central Railway (SCR) has taken all precautionary measures, railway sources said on Wednesday. 

General Manager of SCR, M S Jayanth held a high level meeting with the senior officials on Wednesday and instructed that all steps be taken to ensure safe running of trains, they said.

All the Engineering Staff have been put on high alert and Officers' advised to remain in their Divisional jurisdiction to handle any eventuality.

Patrolling of railway tracks has been intensified and in case of emergency trains will be escorted by engineering staff and officials, they said.

According to reports, Officers have been specifically deputed to monitor the situation at vulnerable places like Ongole, Gudivada and Samalkot of Vijayawada Division, according to a SCR release. According to reports, trains in Vijaywada division are running late.

The SCR authorities are in constant touch with the Meteorological and other Government departments to monitor the impact of the cyclone, it said.
