Lucknow,Allahabad:

Sparing no party, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday  targeted former ally Samajwadi saying it was difficult to judge whose friends or foes the Samajwadi party is and slammed the BSP for making some communities its shield to attain power after abusing them.

Addressing a series of election rallies in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, where 80 Lok Sabha seats are at stake, Gandhi accused the BJP of playing "communal card" by invoking Lord Ram in its manifesto and said the party should know that there is no place for hatred and riots in 'Ram Raj', which is a system that ensures "justice, honour and security to all".

Gandhi also continued the tirade against BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani in the wake of his "strong leader" pitch questioning his handling of internal security and ridiculed him for stepping down as party chief "under pressure" after Jinnah controversy.

Without directly referring to the RSS-BJP relationship, she said in Allahabad that the Congress has never been "remote-controlled" by any other organisation.

Targeting Mulayam Singh Yadav's party, Gandhi said in Lucknow, "Ye kab kiske dost hai aur kab dushman hai pata nahi (It is difficult to make out whose friends or foes they are at a particular time)," she said.

They form a morcha (political front) one day and switch their allegiance the other day, Gandhi said.

Apparently referring to BSP's social engineering formula, Sonia said "Kuch vargo ke khilaf apshabdon ka prayog kar rajniti karne wali BSP ab usi ko shield bana kar satta pana chah rahi hai (the party which has used abusive language against some sections has now made them its shield to embrace power)."

"How long will you remain trapped in the net spread by such parties," Gandhi said targeting Mayawati's BSP.

In 1990s, the Mayawati-led party had coined the slogan of "Tilak, Taraju aur Talwar, Inko maaro jute chaar" (Brahmin, Bania and Thakurs should be beaten by shoes).

But, now it has enunciated the social engineering formula wooing Brahmins and others castes besides Dalits.

Referring to the mysterious death of a LJP candidate in Jaunpur, she said "political murders are taking place in Uttar Pradesh and the Mayawati government is sleeping."

Money power reigned supreme in the state and the cause of the common man had taken a backstage, she said cautioning voters to be wary of casteist and religious forces.

Politics in the name of religion was the "most dangerous" thing for the country and her party would not let it happen, Gandhi said in an apparent bid to target the BJP.

"There is a party which is indulging in religion-based politics for the last several years and it is again playing the communal card by incorporating Ram in their manifesto and talking about Ram Raj," she said.

"But I would like to tell these people that there is no place of hate, discrimination and riots in the Ram Raj. It is a system which ensures justice, honour and security to all," she added.
