Soldier Opens Fire, Kills Colleague at BSF Camp in West Bengal's Malda

The jawan who allegedly fired at his colleagues is missing.

Malda:

A soldier allegedly killed his colleague and wounded four more this morning after a fight at a Border Security Force camp in West Bengal's Malda town.

Officials say after an argument last night, the jawan, Basant Singh, today took a weapon from a nearby post, walked back to his camp and opened fire on sleeping personnel, killing a head constable, Moolchand, instantly.

Singh, 35, allegedly fired a few rounds before dropping the weapon and running away. He is still missing.

Officials said he had not been issued his own ammunition so he allegedly pretended to stand in for another soldier and picked up the weapon.

"It's not a case of fratricide, but it is a shootout which took place following a heated argument. The killer constable is on the run," a BSF official said.
