Slap case: Sonia asks MP to explain

Mahbubnagar, Andhra Pradesh:

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has sought a report into the incident of an MP slapping a bank manager in Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, employees of Grameen Bank on Wednesday supported black badges in protest against the MP, and have said that from Thursday, Uppununthala branch will remain close.

The employees union has said that they will also stop lending crop loans. The bank has 528 branches in the state.

All India Congress Committee in-charge for Andhra Pradesh, Veerappa Moily has asked the state Congress committee to explain the incident. The Congress party MP from Andhra Pradesh who slapped the bank manager for not releasing loans to SC/ST beneficiaries says the incident was an accident and that he didn't really slap the man.

M Jagannath, the MP from Nagarkurnool is believed to have sought an explanation from the bank manager over the phone after which he went to the bank.  A heated exchange followed after which the MP slapped the manager. The manager has lodged a police case.
