Sitaram vs Jairam over 'Nobel for filth'

New Delhi: Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh's 'Filthy India' comment has drawn a sharp reaction from the Left.

The minister had said that if there were a Nobel Prize for dirt and filth, India would get it. (Read & Watch: India deserves the Nobel for filth)

"I hope he does not make our cities filthier just to get the Nobel," retorted Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury on Saturday.

"Instead of criticism, the government should come up with concrete suggestions to improve our cities," said Yechury.

"Let Jairam and the Congress volunteer to clean up the cities, like Krishna Iyer and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) did in Kerala," he added.
