Shopian firing: Jammu and Kashmir government orders shifting of CRPF camp

Locals say the four men killed were innocent civilians.

Shopian: The Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered the shifting of the Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF camp at Gagran in Shopian. Four people had died in a controversial shootout outside the camp on Saturday.

Locals say the four men killed were innocent civilians.

The police insist that one of them was a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, but it has admitted that the other three had no militancy record.

Yesterday, one protester named Rafiq Ahmad Rather was killed after security forces opened fire on protesters demanding the shifting of the camp.

The CRPF will be replaced by the J&K armed police.

Three districts of south Kashmir - Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian - are under curfew after yesterday's violence.
