Shopian case: SC rejects cops' bail plea

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has rejected bail for four Jammu and Kashmir policemen arrested for their alleged role in the Shopian rape and murder case.

The apex court has asked the state government for a proper investigation.

Dismissing the petition of the J&K police, the court asked the police officers to move the Sessions Court at Shopian for bail. The court said if the state government wants a narco test on the officers, they should move the Sessions Court.

The court stated that the accused police officers should have a fair shot at justice.

On July 11, the inquiry report in the Shopian incident was made public, and the contents of it showed that it was inconclusive in its findings.

The report asked for deeper investigations, saying "unfortunate obstructions" prevented them from identifying those behind the rape and murder of the two women.

Reacting to the findings of the report, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said that it was true certain evidence were destroyed.
