Sheena Bora Murder Case: Peter Mukerjea's CBI Custody Extended by a Day

Sheena Bora Murder Case: Peter Mukerjea's CBI Custody Extended by a Day

Peter Mukerjea underwent a lie detector test in New Delhi on Saturday, September 28.

New Delhi: Former media executive Peter Mukerjea, accused in the murder case of his step-daughter Sheena Bora, will have to spend at least one more day in CBI custody. A special Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI court has extended Mr Mukerjea's CBI custody till Tuesday.

Peter Mukejea was arrested by the CBI on November 19 on the suspicion of playing an active role in the conspiracy to kill Sheena Bora. The CBI has conducted a lie detector test on Mr Mukerjea to establish if his claims of innocence are true or not.

In court, Mr Mukerjea was overheard telling a CBI officer, "Hold me as long as you want but I am not guilty of anything."

Mr Mukerjea's lawyer Mihir Gheewala argued in court, "He has nothing to do with the planning and execution of the murder. Today's remand application has no mention of any financial transaction that they mentioned last time... Because my client has nothing to hide he has given consent for polygraph test. It is time to move to the next stage in this case which is judicial custody," Mr Gheewala argued.

Arguing for the CBI, Advocate Bharat Badami told the court, "The accused has been subjected to polygraph test. We are waiting for the report and after the report comes custodial interrogation is absolutely necessary. Documents are also being studied. We are at a crucial stage and we need to have custodial interrogation."

Sheena Bora, 24 - who was allegedly strangled in April 2012 - was the unacknowledged daughter of Indrani Mukerjea. In public, she was introduced as Ms Mukerjea's sister. The murder remained undiscovered for three years. This August, Ms Bora's remains were found in the forest in Raigad, around 80 km from Mumbai. The CBI claims a financial dispute is the motive behind the murder.

Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai were arrested by the Mumbai Police earlier this year for allegedly murdering Sheena Bora.
