Senior Gorkhaland activist Benoy Tamang among 40 arrested last night

Kolkata: A senior activist of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), which is demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland in the Darjeeling hills of West Bengal, was arrested last night.

GJM leader Benoy Tamang was among 40 members of the outfit arrested last night at Rangpo in the Bengal-Sikkim border.

Tamang is member of the Morcha's central committee and close to Morcha chief Bimal Gurung
He will be produced at a court in Kalimpong later today.

Over 700 Gorkhaland activists have been arrested this month, since they revived their agitation for a separate state, spurred by the announcement of a Telangana state carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
