Second Phase Turnout In West Bengal Crosses 83 Per Cent

In the first two parts of phase one of polling on April 4 and 11, the final turnout was 84.22 per cent and 83.73 per cent.

Kolkata: Over 83 per cent voters had cast their votes in the second phase of West Bengal Assembly polls yesterday, the Election Commission said today revising the voting percentage.

Yesterday the EC has said the turnout was 79.70 per cent of the electorate.

After compilation and scrutiny of data, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, released the final voter turnout of 83.05 per cent today.

Polling was held yesterday for 56 seats in six north Bengal districts of Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda and Birbhum in south Bengal.

The highest turnout was in Rajganj seat at 89.58 per cent while the lowest was 69.08 per cent in Darjeeling.

Over 1.2 crore electorate were eligible to exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 383 candidates, including 33 women.
