Aman Mani Tripathi's custody was extended by a Delhi court.
A Delhi court today extended by three days the CBI custody of Samajwadi Party leader Aman Mani Tripathi, son of jailed politician Amar Mani Tripathi, in connection with the alleged murder of his wife.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satish Kumar Arora sent the accused to CBI custody till December 2 after the probe agency claimed that he was required for further interrogation with regard to a forensic report released in the matter.
The court, however, turned down CBI's plea seeking seven days custody of Mr Aman, who was produced before the magistrate on expiry of the previous custody, and allowed it for three days instead.
The agency's plea was opposed by Mr Aman's counsel Khalil Ansari, who said his client was not needed for any further interrogation and should be sent to judicial custody.
A magisterial court had on November 26 granted CBI the custody of Mr Aman for three days after the agency claimed that he was required for custodial interrogation to unearth the entire conspiracy behind the crime.
Mr Aman was arrested on November 25 for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old wife Sara, who had reportedly died in a car accident in Firozabad on National Highway 2 in July last year. However, he had escaped unhurt.
Based on a complaint by Sara's mother Seema Singh an FIR was registered against Mr Aman in Firozabad district. Ms Singh had alleged that her daughter, who had married Mr Aman at an Arya Samaj temple in Lucknow in July 2013, was murdered.
Mr Aman parents, Amar Mani and Madhu Mani, were against the marriage, Ms Singh had said.
Mr Aman, however, had claimed that Sara died in the road accident when they were on their way to New Delhi for a holiday.
After Ms Singh had demanded that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav order a CBI investigation into the incident, the matter was referred to the central agency, which took over the probe from UP Police a few days later.
