Lambasting the Uttar Pradesh government for preventing its delegation from visiting Azamgarh, the state BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday said he suspected the ruling Samajwadi Party had "something to hide" in the district affected by communal tension.
"The state government has not been able to bring the situation under control in Azamgarh and, when we tried to send a delegation comprising responsible and respectable people, they were stopped. We strongly suspect the ruling party has something to hide there," Mr Maurya said while reacting to detention of members of the delegation.
The delegation, led by the state's former Director General of Police Brij Lal, was detained on its way to Azamgarh where several persons have been arrested and some senior officials injured in clashes between members of the two communities.
He said he will soon visit Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's parliamentary constituency and "expose the ruling party for its wrongdoing".
Mr Maurya also lashed out at the state government for its refusal to accept centre's help to cope with the water crisis in drought-hit Bundelkhand region.
"The people of Bundelkhand are suffering and a train with wagons full of water remained parked at a station for days. If the ruling SP had not been insensitive and indulged in petty politics, the water could have reached many remote areas," he said.
Mr Maurya said the BJP believes in serving the people and this reflects in actions of Narendra Modi government, which has accomplished more in its two years of its rule than the previous Congress dispensations did in six decades. He alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav government has been a failure at all fronts.
"Corruption is rampant. Land-grabbing by thugs carrying flags of the ruling Samajwadi Party has become the order of the day," Mr Maurya alleged.
He said Samajwadi Party and its arch rival BSP are "two facets of the same coin" and expressed confidence that the BJP will form its government in the state.
A day after he had ruled out a tie-up with Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal, Maurya reiterated the BJP was looking forward to contesting UP assembly polls on its own steam and "we are certain that we will win more than 265 out of 403 seats in the state assembly".
He also condemned the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan and said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should recommend a CBI probe in the case.
He said Mr Kumar should look into the law and order situation in his state, instead of wasting time and energy in Uttar Pradesh where his Janata Dal United has no presence.
