Ruckus in Bihar Assembly, Opposition MLAs hurl tables

Patna: It was a free for all inside the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday, all because MLAs could not decide what to debate during working hours. The BJP and JD(U) wanted to discuss price rise and the failings of the Central government.

No way, said the RJD, demanding instead a debate on last week's Patna High Court order asking for a CBI enquiry into the alleged bungling of funds to the tune of Rs 11000 crore between 2002 and 2008.

In the end, nothing was discussed and the Assembly proceedings were reduced to shameful scenes.

"People have a right to debate, but not in this fashion. The government has a job to do, so has the Opposition , but they can't stop us from functioning in this way," Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.

"This is unparliamentary, Nitish has attacked me. This incident (the ruckus) is an embarrassment and I condemn it," RJD chief Lalu Yadav said. (Read: I won't forget this humiliation, Lalu tells Nitish)

Similar squabbling was seen earlier in the day too, when RJD MLAs broke into loud protests against the chief minister as he entered the Vidhan Sabha premises.

These scenes have perhaps proved once again that when it comes to scoring political points, MLAs these days will stop at nothing.
