Railways trying to protect Mahato, says Buddha

Railways trying to protect Mahato, says Buddha
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has accused the Trinamool Congress of supporting the Maoists.

Addressing a public rally in Kolkata, Buddhadeb said the Railways was trying to protect Chhatradhar Mahato whose group is believed to have been behind the recent Rajdhani hijack in Midnapore.

The Bengal CM accused the Railways of trying to protect Mahato.

He said the First Information Report (FIR) that was filed against the hijackers of the Rajdhani Express didn't have any mention of any Maoists or the armed wing of the People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA).

Accusing Trinamool of backing the Maoists, Buddhadeb said Union Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee had even met Mahato once. The Trinamool and the Maoists had joined hands, he added.

The CM also said that if all parties condemned the Maoists, the problem would be solved.

On Thursday, the Railways filed an FIR against "unknown persons" for holding up the train, "heckling passengers" and preventing staff from "discharging their duties for a long time".

The PCPA had kidnapped two drivers of the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express on Tuesday near Banstala in West Midnapore district of West Bengal.

The PCPA has been demanding the release of Chhatradhar Mahato.

Mahato, who is a key figure in PCPA, is in police remand in connection with the murder of Prabir Mahato, a CPM member of Dharampur.

Maoist leader Kishanji had denied involvement of his men in the train hijack drama.

Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had appealed through the local media to the PCPA to think about the thousands of the passengers of the Rajdhani Express, saying she was ready for talks. The Maoists had earlier sought a meeting with her.
