Rabri Devi booked on charge of abusing Nitish Kumar

Patna:

Former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi has been booked for her alleged derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and state Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh at a poll rally in Saran district, an official said on Monday.

"A case was lodged against Rabri Devi at the Bheldi police station Sunday night. The FIR (first information report) was lodged by the district administration," Saran district magistrate B. Rajendar told IANS.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader had allegedly made the remarks against Nitish Kumar and Lalan Singh at a public meeting in Saran. Her husband, Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, is the party candidate from the Saran Lok Sabha seat.

Official sources said that police will investigate the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by Rabri Devi.

In its complaint to the Election Commission against Rabri Devi, the JD-U said the poll panel should disallow the former chief minister form campaigning.

"We have demanded that the commission cancel her legislature membership and that she should not be allowed to contest next assembly elections for her abusive remarks," said JD-U spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari.

Tiwari led the party delegation to submit a memorandum to the poll panel here.

Nitish Kumar has said the JD-U will file a defamation suit against Rabri Devi.
