Qasab seeks a lawyer from Pakistan

Qasab seeks a lawyer from Pakistan
Mumbai:

The lone captured terrorist of Mumbai terror attacks Ajmal Amir Qasab has said that a lawyer from Pakistan should defend him after Anjali Waghmare was removed as his lawyer.

Indian government will be forwarding Qasab's request to Islamabad.

Qasab's sacked lawyer Anjali Waghmare told NDTV that she cannot go against the court.

"It will be easier for the new lawyer, will not face troubles I have," said Waghmare.

Earlier, a special sessions court said on Wednesday that Waghmare cannot defend Qasab as she is already representing one of the victims of the attack in another case.

The court, set up to try Qasab and two other arrested accused in the Mumbai attacks case, is now consulting the prosecution regarding appointment of a new lawyer for Qasab.

Advocate K Lam, who had earlier expressed the desire to defend Qasab, had petitioned the court last week, saying that Waghmare should not appear in this case, as she was representing one of the victims of the 26/11 attacks in a compensation claim.

The court said Waghmare should have informed the court about this when she was appointed as Qasab's lawyer, and removed her as his counsel.
