Pune film institute students hold protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
Striking students of the Film and Television Training institute students today took their protest against their institute head, actor-turned-politician Gajendra Chauhan, to the Capital.
The 80-strong contingent was joined at Jantar Mantar by students of the Delhi University, and the students' bodies of the Congress and the Left. Congress lawmaker and spokesperson Raj Babbar and JD(U) parliamentarian KC Tyagi also visited Jantar Mantar to pledge support to them.
At 4 pm, they started march towards Parliament but were stopped by the police midway.
"We want a systematic change not only removing Mr Chauhan as the institute head but want the entire board to be revamped," said third-year student Shyama, who is studying film editing at the institute.
The government, however, is not willing to sack Mr Chauhan. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said the government was willing to talk to the students but was against politicising the issue.
"I would like to ask Rathore -- would he have won medals for the country under mediocre leadership and mentors?" said Mr Babbar, referring to the Olympian's achievements.
The students - who have been on protest for nearly two months -- say they hold their protest in the Capital till the August 7, but the agitation will continue till the government gives in to their demand.
Last week, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had gone to Pune and met with striking students, promising support.
