Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Jamshedpur After Clash Over Molestation Incident

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Jamshedpur's Mango area following clashes over a molestation incident.

Jamshedpur: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code or CrPC were imposed in Jamshedpur's Mango police station area late on Monday night following a clash between members of two communities over a molestation incident, official sources said.

Keeping in view the prevailing situation, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been promulgated to maintain law and order situation, Alok Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer (Dalbhum), said.

The clash took place over a molestation incident by a member of a particular community, forcing the other community members to assemble near a temple in Mango area and put up a road blockade. Mr Kumar said a similar incident had taken place two days ago in the area.

Amid the prevailing tension, members of both the communities indulged in brick-batting even as the district police force intervened to pacify the warring groups.

Additional police forces have been deployed in view of the brewing tension, and Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop T Mathew, along with senior district officials, rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, he said.

Mr Kumar said the situation was well under control but tense, forcing the East Singhbhum district administration to impose Section 144 of the CrPC.

Some people were reportedly injured in the melee but the exact number could not be ascertained.

Mr Kumar confirmed that two policemen sustained injuries in the brick-batting and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

There was, however, no official confirmation about the reports of police firing at the warring group.

Police sources said adequate forces have been deployed in and around the trouble-torn area of Mango.
