Pune: Even as India's premier film institute roils over the selection of new chairman Gajendra Chauhan and classes remain suspended, the government has appointed a new director.

National Film Archive of India Director Prashant Pathrabe has been given additional charge of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.

Pathrabe is a 1992 batch officer of the Indian Information Service and has worked in Doordarshan News and AIR News in Mumbai.

Pathrabe, an MBA from IIM, Ahmedabad joined the Indian Information Service in 1993, after a couple of short stints in the public and private sector companies.

Amid the controversy, the government had reportedly postponed the interview to select the new Director as the term of DJ Narain was set to end on July 18.

Narain on Wednesday had issued a circular, warning students that they faced suspension if they did not end their protests against chairman Gajendra Chauhan.
