PIL filed against parties using Lankan issue as poll plank

PIL filed against parties using Lankan issue as poll plank
Madurai:

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) protesting against using the 'sensitive Sri Lankan Tamils' issue' as a poll plank has been filed in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court in Madurai.

A Division Bench of Justice S K Krishnan and Justice T Raja posted the case for hearing after 10 days.

The petitioner Kannan, an advocate, said majority of the political parties in the country were using caste and religion as political issue to gain advantage during the polls.

"Now various political parties were using the Sri Lankan Tamils issue in a big way. They are using a sad issue to gain votes. This is condemnable," he said.

"It is wrong to politicise the issue to gain votes," he said and sought a directive from the court to direct the Election Commission to ask political parties not to use Tamils issue as an election plank.
