Mumbai:
The Ministry of External Affairs would give a hearing to the family members of Iqbal Kaskar, fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's brother, regarding the restrictions on their overseas travel, Bombay High Court was told on Tuesday.
Iqbal's wife Rizwana and their four children had challenged the remark on their passports which said they could travel only between the United Arab Emirates and India. The restriction had been introduced upon the MEA's instructions.
But after the Union Government's lawyer today told the court that the MEA would give them a hearing on January 18, the division bench of Justices Ranjana Desai and Mridula Bhatkar disposed off the petition with the instruction to the concerned MEA officer to "pass an appropriate reasoned order" after hearing the Kaskars.
Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood's younger brother, was deported to India some years ago, and tried in Sara Sahara illegal construction case, but was eventually acquitted by the sessions court. Iqbal's own passport was impounded when he was deported and his application for issuing a fresh passport was rejected last year. He has filed a separate application in the High Court challenging this order.
